Shall we go to Drake's tonight?

General information and tips

The MOHAGINE care guarantee

Rasta

If you have something on your mind, please do not hesitate to contact us. Let us know if you need anything or how we can help make your stay more enjoyable. We are happy to take care of you.

The MOHAGINE rest

You will feel it as soon as you have left the entrance gate: something is different here! We live in a lively place with rattling motorbikes, noisy quads and roaring trucks. It all becomes quieter and you leave it behind. Be part of it. Almost all of our guests get up early every day to either take part in tours or to travel on. So please be quiet and go to sleep after 9 p.m.

Drake Bay

Bahia Drake, as it is called here, is actually just a stretch of beach from the Drake River to the tip of Ganado. The places Progresso, Agujitas, Los Planes and Rincon form today's Drake Bay. In addition, all hotels that are on the open Pacific side also refer to themselves as being in Drake Bay. Agujitas is currently the only place where there is a tourist infrastructure, the main landing point for the Sierpe speedboats is also here. Take a day to explore the other locations of Drake Bay. Progresso with the airport, the flat Los Planes and the Rincon de Drake on the open Pacific.

Cash

Please bring enough cash with you. There is neither a bank nor an ATM in town and you cannot pay with a card everywhere. You can pay your invoice with us by bank transfer or in cash. The best way to withdraw money in this country is the National Bank of Costa Rica.

environmental Protection

Basically, in Costa Rica "green electricity" comes from the socket. Costa Rica gets 100% of its electricity from wind power, the sun and, above all, steam from the volcanoes.

Nevertheless, MOHAGINE takes many other ecological aspects into account wherever possible. Please pay attention to your ecological footprint and switch off lights and fans, for example, when you leave the cabins. Energy-saving lamps (we are currently completely switching over to LEDs) are just as normal for us as separating rubbish. Make sure you cleanly separate and recycle your trash. There are appropriately labeled containers for this. Please also note that we do not change bed linen and towels every day, but only after 2-3 days. Should it be necessary beforehand or you need an extra towel, please let us know, we will of course be happy to provide you with this.

MOHAGINE collects rubbish on the beach

If you take a walk on the beach you may notice that our natural beach is "relatively clean". In the morning we clean the beach section from the police station to our private dock of civilization garbage such as plastic, cans, bottles, butts, etc. Please help ensure that there is less tomorrow.

equipment

Please bring light, quick-drying clothing. Make sure you only take the essentials with you, this will give you more pleasure. Please also bring a flashlight.

Laundry service and drying area

We offer you our own washing service. A wash load (large machine) costs 5,000 colones. In addition, there is a sufficiently large drying area, which you can also use for your clothes, towels, etc. (no entitlement to a refund of the accommodation price in the event of unavailability). We would like to ask you neither to attach linen nor to hang up damp laundry on the cabinas to dry.

Cleaning of the communal wet areas

The allocation of the toilet and the showers (male / female) can be found in the existing labels. We always endeavor to clean the hygienically sensitive areas of the occupancy as often as possible. Should there be any complaints, please let us know, we will take care of it immediately.

security

The hotel grounds are guarded around the clock. If you still need to lock something, please contact us, we will be happy to do it for you. If you live in one of the cabañas with an external bathroom, please make sure you use a flashlight at night and watch your way. All of our rooms, huts and supply rooms as well as the passageways are equipped with smoke detectors, fire extinguishers and emergency lights for power outages. On departure, please bring the keys to our staff. Note that their working hours end at 3:00 p.m. If you need anything after this time, they will courtesy of them to help.

Smoking and open fire

In Costa Rica, smoking is prohibited by law in all public places. Please only smoke in the specially marked area. Open fires of any kind on our finca are prohibited (except for the smoking area). Please take this rule very seriously. Even if candles and gas lamps are very romantic, it must be remembered that all of our buildings are made of natural materials and that there are no firewalls in our place!

Should a fire break out anyway, use the fire extinguishers available everywhere as soon as possible. If you cannot find one with a designated fire extinguisher, please let us know immediately. You will also find water connections with long hoses at various locations in the garden.

kitchen

In our lounge there is a kitchen with all the necessary equipment (4-burner stove, microwave, refrigerator, rice and kettle, etc.) that can be used to cook and prepare your own meals. Various spices, oils, coffee and tea are available free of charge. Please use the refrigerator for your fresh products. Each cabin has its own storage elements for food. Please do not leave your food in the kitchen area or in the cabin. Please also clean all utensils and areas as well as the dining table, if used.

water

We can supply you with fresh drinking water from our own spring - all year round! No water shortage in the dry season and no dirty broth in the rainy season. We offer tested drinking water quality in the required quantity 12 months a year - enjoy it, it tastes delicious! (No entitlement to a refund of the accommodation price in the event of unavailability for technical reasons).

Power supply

We are currently still connected to the local power grid. Since we are in a very remote and inaccessible place, there are more or less long power outages from time to time. Please understand that then neither the landline nor the Internet will work, sometimes even no mobile network. Please call again later, thank you.

Tours

We are in one of the most biodiverse places on earth, but we cannot guarantee that certain animals will be sighted.
On all day trips you should take enough water, sunscreen and sunscreen for your head and eyes with you, and insect repellent when hiking in the jungle. A little seaworthiness is helpful on the boat tours, otherwise you should prepare yourself accordingly with medication.

Fruits and animals

On our finca you will find over 50 different fruits, vegetables and medicinal plants. First and foremost, these are for the animals, but you are welcome to consume them too. However, speak to us beforehand and please do not harvest yourself.

FEEDING PROHIBITED!!! Please do not feed the animals or lure them to your cabaña! They are wild animals and they should stay that way. The hummingbirds should continue to drink their nectar from flowers and not just from the water dispensers on display, and the monkeys should not steal any food from the table in the future either.

WiFi

At the moment we offer you a network from Kölbi, which can be a bit slow depending on the workload. However, nothing else is currently available. Please keep this in mind when you rate us. The National Electricity Company (ICE) is installing fiber optic cables to Drake Bay. Soon we will be able to offer better signal and higher internet speed. Usually the network works fine. Exceptions are power outages and evenings when all our guests want to send messages and photos to loved ones at home at the same time. In these cases, please show patience and use the time, for example, for a nice walk through our garden.

breakfast

We would be happy to give you the opportunity to enjoy a delicious breakfast. This is served between 5.00 and 9.00 am (adapted to the tours) in the “Carey” restaurant (5 minutes' walk from MOHAGINE). It costs 4,000 colones per person and includes coffee or tea, a smoothie and a fruit platter, as well as a choice of continental, traditional Costa Rican breakfast or pancakes. If you decide to have breakfast, please inform us the evening before so that we can book accordingly for the next morning.

Infrastructure

In Agujitas there is a primary and a high school, an Ebais station (see health), a police station, a community hall, various supermarkets, restaurants and sodas, bars, an ice cream parlor and 3 churches. There is a bus connection to La Palma. You can rent taxis here, as well as motorbikes, quads, 4x4s or minibuses, depending on the route and the number of people. Beautiful beaches, most of the excursion destinations and Sierpe can be reached by speedboat. There is also a “pay station”, a way of making money transfers via BNCR's online banking system (only partially functional).

Supermarkets and restaurants

In the village there are various supermarkets, restaurants and sodas, bars and an ice cream parlor. If you would like to eat outside of our finca, we recommend the restaurant "El Tortugo". Here you get delicious, mostly typical Costa Rican dishes at an affordable price. "Claudio’s Grill", directly opposite our finca, is also a great alternative to cooking yourself. Here all meat is cooked on the grill, a delicious pleasure.

health

There is an Ebais station, open on working days from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Here minor injuries and ailments are taken care of and expectant mothers are cared for. There is no hospital or pharmacy.

Collecting flotsam and shells

You will find flotsam all over the buildings. If you like it, take it with you! But please consider the weight of your suitcase. We have put together a collection of decorative pieces in small baskets, including seeds and wood scraps, as well as some broken pieces and stones. We'll give this to you from the bottom of our hearts if you don't take any mussels and snail shells with you in return.

Thank you very much for your understanding and the respect you show our work and the animals and plants. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We're here to help!
