What's your favorite Ninja Turtle movie

Cowabunga !!!

I grew up with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I loved the cartoon series and the first two films were one of the first things I saw in the cinema (which wasn't a Disney movie now). In addition, a certain Leonardo and a certain Shredder were the very first action figures I owned. So you can safely assume that the ninja turtles shaped my childhood a little bit. And so it shouldn't surprise anyone that I couldn't help but watch the new "Turtles" movie. Even if the name Michael Bay was in large letters on the poster. Even if the Turtles really look like mutated bodybuilders now. It just couldn't be any other way ...

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" reboots the beloved series for a new generation. And maybe that's the biggest stumbling block ... because if you didn't grow up with mutated, juvenile ninja turtles, you will always shake your head a little. In any case, in “TMNT” we experience the new Origin story of Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael - the turtles who are trained in the sewer system by their master Splinter and who also love pizza. But New York doesn't need the Turtles underground, but above: After all, the Foot Clan, under the leadership of Shredder, is spreading fear and terror. Only the tough journalist April O'Neil (Megan Fox) and her cameraman Vern (Will Arnett) are at the side of the Turtles.

Can we pleeeease get another girl ???

For the fact that Michael Bay is on it, surprisingly little goes up in "TMNT". But this may also be due to the fact that Bay is not directing it himself. Jonathan Liebesman is responsible for it ... and yes, even if you can feel the bay factor here and there, “TMNT” somehow turned out to be an entertaining film. Perhaps that was also because I had lowered my expectations so much ... a disappointment was almost impossible.

Sure, the story is irrelevant and, unfortunately, not really mature. For everyone who doesn't know the turtles yet, there is a brief explanation of how it all came about. But that has to be enough ... because after that, "TMNT" is more like the first "Amazing Spider-Man" with Andrew Garfield ... and actually you can even delete that "rather". Because even the finale of "TMNT" is exactly like our friendly wall crawler. But well, a sensible script cannot, shouldn't, and shouldn't be expected from Michael Bay.

What you have to give to Liebesman and Bay is the fact that they met their heroes amazingly well in the tank. There is wonderful squabbling and arguing, stupid jokes are cracked and there is a lot going on. So even if the new Turtles look really hard to get used to, they don't disappoint. In any case, I laughed a lot ... and that's the most important thing about the "Turtles". They refrained from making the whole thing too serious ... but how? We're still talking about mutant turtles that are ninjas. This cannot and must not be taken too seriously.

Where you really worked hard with the Turtles, you unfortunately saved way too much with everything else. Shredder is a joke !!! Really true!!! A joke!!! A weird hulk in armor with magnetic knives shooting around ... that's not the bad guy I know. That sucks!!! This shredder is a would-be transformer ... and that he can move with the armor and compete against the nimble Turtles, borders on a miracle.

It's also a miracle that Bay has Megan Fox reappeared in one of his films ... and honestly, he shouldn't have done it. A) she really doesn't fit into the role of April O'Neil and B) the woman just can't act. Every word from her mouth sounds so extremely rehearsed ... the good woman can really only be used for lounging in front of a car to give a Transformers film feminine curves.

After all, their LEGO Batman Will Arnett has been put by their side ... and he just can't disappoint.

So what's the bottom line? “TMNT” is a film that nobody really needs. I prefer to watch the old films ... they had charm. This movie isn't really big ... but it's kind of entertaining nonetheless. Without Megan Fox and with a better villain it could have turned out really well, because after all, Liebesman retains the group dynamics of the Turtles ... and I give him credit for that. But you should really think again about everything else ...

Rating: 5 out of 10 points (the turtles go down, the rest tend to go under)
