Deadpool revived Ryan Reynolds' career

Ryan Reynolds wrote Deadpool while filming Green Lantern

Deadpool was a project close to his heart for Ryan Reynolds. Now the actor has revealed that he wrote the screenplay for the film while filming Green Lantern.

Green Lantern was a flop, while Deadpool was great. This is how Ryan Reynolds' superhero career to date can be summed up. In The Hollywood Reporter's Awards Chatter podcast (via Screen Rant), the actor now stated that he was fully involved in the planning of Deadpool as the main character while filming his first superhero film. First he reported on his difficult decision to put on the green hero suit. It was only when he was certain that the people in charge at Fox didn't want to make a Deadpool film that he signed for the role of Green Lantern. But as is so often the case, the circumstances changed a short time later:

The bizarre twist was that Deadpool was somehow resurrected by Fox around the time [Green Lantern] was taking place. What a lot of people don't know is that [writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick] fled to New Orleans while I was filming Green Lantern and we were writing the script for Deadpool together. [...] We developed the story of the original Deadpool movie in a house that was paid for with Green Lantern money.

This may sound unprofessional to some, but that doesn't mean Ryan Reynolds is neglecting his work for Green Lantern. As Screen Rant notes, it is common practice for filmmakers to work on multiple projects in parallel. Steven Spielberg, for example, designed the E.T. - The alien during the filming of Raiders of the Lost Ark. In the case of Ryan Reynolds, it just shows again how hard he tried to make Deadpool a successful film.
