Progesterone would mask a miscarriage

Utrogest and miscarriage

Question:

Dear Doctor Bluni,

I suffered a FG in February of this year in the 9th week of pregnancy.
I have to say that I got pregnant on the first try, so I don't have to worry that it won't work that fast again. The next attempt should now be started: o))

During the week of the FG I was not doing well and it was only afterwards that it became clear to me that these were possibly signs of the missed abortion. I had chills-like chills and slept very poorly. But since I had no other complaints, I did not see the doctor.

But when I noticed that these symptoms reappeared in the next cycle after the scraping (i.e. cold and sleepless) I went to my FA, who then suspected a possible luteal hormone weakness and prescribed Utrogest to me. But he didn't measure any hormone levels. I always take that from 15.-25. Day, one capsule vaginally.

What I'm wondering now is whether it actually makes sense at this dose, because when I read the forums, women take a lot more of it. Or was that just a placebo to make me feel better mentally? I have also read that the Utro cannot prevent FG at all ...

Isn't it dangerous to stop using Utro if I possibly become pregnant? I am supposed to take the utro as usual and go back to the FA if my period does not occur.

I'm confused

Thank you for your reponse

Answer to:

Utrogest and miscarriage

Dear Katjanka,

First of all, the probability of a future pregnancy without an early miscarriage is around 90%.

In addition, it is hardly possible to deduce from the symptoms described whether there is a clinically relevant corpus luteum weakness. In this respect, the dose hardly plays a role.

In addition, such a hormone is not at all suitable for preventing a miscarriage, if we ignore pregnancies that have arisen in the context of artificial insemination.
